What would you say if I told you that staying in the wrong job can be disastrous for your health? Think I’m exaggerating? Sadly, I am not.
Research has now proven what many of us knew in our hearts all along: Staying in a job that you hate, putting up with a toxic environment, a bad boss, or terrible culture can make you sick. In fact, Jeffrey Pfeffer, an organizational behavior professor at Stanford who wrote the book Dying for a Paycheck, says that our bodies are often trying to tell us something.
When we see work, even subconsciously, as a dangerous place, we will react physiologically to that danger by the release of stress hormones. One bad day isn’t a problem, but the release of stress hormones over time will have a physical impact that can show up as headaches, fatigue, sleeplessness, and body aches (caused by muscle tension).
And, all of this also impacts our immune systems, so you may find yourself getting colds more often and picking up every bug that goes around.
If you are dreading work and talking yourself out of bed every morning, and telling yourself you have to put up with this – STOP! You are putting your health at risk.
You are worth more, and better IS out there. It’s not as hard to make a change as you think it will be. You do not have to put up with this. So if you find yourself saying, “I don’t know how much longer I can take this,” or if you are fantasizing about some miracle that will make things better – LISTEN. And move on. And if you need help, let me know – it’s what I do 🙂 Click here for your complimentary call.
