Today is Opposite Day! And while you are usually the one in charge of your home, life and career, today is the day when you can have some fun finding yourself a little upside down. We all like to be in the driver seat, but sometimes we need to hop into the passenger seat to get another point of view. Sometimes that means letting go and not trying to do all the work yourself.
I’m Stefie, Sarah’s admin, and Sarah invited me to write this week’s blog. She thought I may be better suited given that Opposite Day is something we hold sacred in my house! You think I’m teasing, but in my home where an eight year old and an eleven year old live, this is a serious day!
A Career Coach Can Play Too!
Opposite Day is a topsy, turvy day when everything you say, do, see, and hear are the opposite. If you say you want to watch TV, it means you don’t. If you say you don’t want ice cream, it means you do! Opposite Day can be a whole lot of fun. It can also be very, very confusing! And quite honestly, I’m terrible at it! While I am normally the coach in my family – calling the shots and keeping everyone and everything moving forward – on Opposite Day, I let others take the reins…I have no idea what is going on and my kids think it’s hysterical!
“What does this have to do with my career?” you may wonder. One of the things I’ve noticed since working with Sarah is that a lot of people think they are doing fine with their careers, until they are not. Instead of trying to manage on your own – how about doing the opposite? Imagine what a relief it would be to NOT do it all yourself? That’s what a career coach does – they take the reins for a while and assist you with re-evaluating your career goals, development and opportunities.

A Career Coach Drives The Process
We have all had times when we want to make changes, especially in our careers, but just aren’t sure of the direction to take or how to go about it. During those times, we need to find an experienced, savvy career coach to help us find meaningful, purposeful and engaging work. These are the days and certainly times in our lives when those of us who are usually in charge need to pull back and drop the reins. In that way, it’s a lot like Opposite Day.
