Imagine you just heard about a new opportunity, perhaps a promotion, a move to another department, or a new job a friend told you about. What is your first reaction? If you’re human, it’s probably a combination of excitement and curiosity! Then something interesting...

Hi Friends! I’m doing something a little different with my message this week, because as I was thinking about what I needed to say, I realized that it’s really something that maybe should be heard instead of read. What I want to talk to you about in the next 2 minutes...

8 Ways Increase Your Chances For An Interview

Tell me if this sounds familiar: “I’ve been making applications, lots of applications, and nothing. How am I supposed to find a new job if I can’t even get an interview?” I can tell you that I’ve been hearing just that, or some version of that, so much lately! Which...

Does Your Resume Pass the Billboard Test?

by Sarah Andrus | Oct 1, 2019 | Business Planning, Career, Career Advice, Job Search, Success, Work | 0 comments

Twice a day, five days a week on my way up and down I95 between my home and my day job at the University of Delaware, I pass a billboard that never fails to capture my attention. It’s a billboard for a St. Francis Hospital. St. Francis is a fine, local hospital that...

I’m often asked, “Sarah, if you could give people one piece of advice when it comes to finding a job that’s a good fit, what would you say?” My answer is always some twist on the same idea: You don’t have to play by someone else’s rules. What I mean is that a lot of...

When I began working with Sarah I was a recent graduate with no direction in my work life. Sarah provided me with an in depth Birkman Assessment analysis which was instrumental in exploring my professional interests and ultimately in choosing a career path. Sarah also supplied numerous job search resources which helped me tidy up my resume and write higher quality cover letters.

Kelly Hicks, Pipeline Analytics Manager

I came to Sarah not really understanding why I wasn’t happy in my career or with my employer. Was it me? Was it my job? Did I just not like working? We spent a lot of time on career assessment, her supporting me and providing advice on my current position and tactical job hunting/interviewing advice. I always trusted in Sarah, even though I wasn’t sure where it was going to take me. In the end, I made a career change, an industry change and an employer change! In the beginning of the process she had me fill out “my ideal job”, where I described the characteristics of the culture, flexibility, salary etc. I thought I was looking for a unicorn, but I’m getting ready to start my new job, and when I look back at what I wrote for “my ideal job”, this one checks off every single box! Thanks Sarah!

I had never used a career coach before, and wasn’t really sure what they did. Sarah’s warm personality and compassionate approach made it easy to trust her right away and I re-discovered several things about myself that I had lost over 15 years of working for the same company. Sarah approach helped me clarify my skills and my interests which put me on a completely different career path. I felt back on my feet again and full of confidence to start the next chapter of my career. I currently split my time between academic research and being the owner of a small chemical consulting business. I’m happier than I’ve been in at least a decade, and I owe a large debt to Sarah for helping me navigate through this time of disequilibrium.
