Have you ever dialed back your job search once you’ve got some interviews lined up? If so, you are not alone.

The instinct to stop networking and applying is natural. It’s as though we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and we think, “Phew, this is nearly over!”

Sadly, while it may feel justified, taking a break from our job search activities is one of the biggest ways we can unknowingly self-sabotage our efforts.

Why? Well, frankly, you don’t have an offer yet. And, every single activity counts. Continuing full speed ahead keeps your energy high and engaged. It also heightens your perceived desirability.

When an employer asks if you are looking elsewhere, you are! They will know they can’t drag their feet in the interview process. Your connections will know you are serious when you continue to keep them updated on your efforts, rather than going radio silent. And, if you are lucky, you may wind up with multiple offers that will put you at an advantage in negotiations.

Just keep that foot on the gas pedal – it’s way easier than trying to rev back up again when that interview doesn’t go the way you want.

Cheers to your career!
