This may sound harsh – but please know that it is coming from a place of truly wanting to help you land a great job.

If you are finding fault with yourself – I’m too old, too young, too experienced, too inexperienced, I’m in the wrong industry, I don’t have the right skills…

You are finding fault with the world – The job market is awful, recruiters are ghosting me, the online application systems suck, there are no opportunities where I live…

You are severely undermining your efforts to get a job offer. In fact, I would go so far as to say: IGNORE THESE THINGS.

Yes, things are rough out there, and we all have personal obstacles to overcome in our job search. I’m not going to argue with you there! But when it comes to perceived faults with find with ourselves, as well as the “news” about external factors, all of that is out of our control.

Here’s the thing: The people who get offers focus on what is in their control. It’s not that they don’t think about the job market or have negative thoughts. They do! But, they quickly redirect their attention to what they can impact – like making connections, interview preparation, tailoring their applications and resume, staying actively engaged on LinkedIn, and continually upgrading their skills.

Sometimes we just need the straight scoop. You can count on me for that.

Cheers to your career!
